Anaïs flew to Texas to shoot for Mother Tongue Magazine back in January. The editors Natalia and Melissa had shared that writer Dina Gachman had pitched a story about her great-aunt who had set fire to her house in protest against her then husband who abused her. She attempted not just once, but twice and on the third try got the job done.
This story was bigger than just arson, it was about a woman who didn’t back down in a time when men wrote the narrative. For two days Dina and Anaïs drove from Fort Worth to Wichita Falls and the surrounding areas, interviewing people, looking for microfilm and places where her great-aunt Ines was.
